Product Description

Zinc chloride is a white deliquescent salt. It forms acidic solutions in water and in polar organic solvents such as ethanol, and ether. Anhydrous zinc chloride hydrolyzes with moisture to form hydrochloric acid. It also forms complex ions with water, ammonia, and some organic solvents. Zinc chloride reacts with sulphide to minimise release of H2S gas in waste treatment facilities. Zinc chloride 50% solution also serves as a high-quality mercerising agent for cotton. Zinc chloride is incompatible with strong oxidising agents, moisture, cyanides, sulphides, and potassium.

Application

1.Historically a dilute aqueous solution of Zinc chloride was used as a disinfectant under the name "Burnett's Disinfecting Fluid".
2. It is also used in some commercial brands of antiseptic mouthwash.
3.Zinc chloride finds wide application in textile processing, metallurgical fluxes, and organic synthesis. 
4.Concentrated aqueous solutions of Zinc chloride have the interesting property of dissolving starch, silk, and cellulose.
